As we start the new school year, 2014-2015, I'd like to let you know a bit about what to expect. Besides the official Class Policies, it is sometimes helpful to understand the classroom climate to help all of us get along and do good work.
First, the Cardinal Rule (most important rule) is to be alert and engaged. English is an endlessly fascinating subject to me and I hope to share my love of the discipline with you. The amount of effort you put into the class is directly related to what results you will get out of it. Stay attentive or you may miss vital, and really interesting, information. We bring in so much material that we move quickly. Staying focused really helps.
Secondly, Respect. Manners are incredibly important in a classroom, specifically in these areas: 1. Listen when someone is speaking to the entire class; 2. Never use electronic devices unless they are part of an assignment; 3. Clean up your desk; 4. Apply the Golden Rule (Do unto others as you would have them do unto you).
Third, Talk to me. If you have questions about class discussions, homework, assignment clarification or would just like to discuss baseball, please feel free to talk to me. I'm available at lunch most days.
Here's to an amazing year. We have mysteries to unravel...
